Owner Engineering Trustworthy Secure Products Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States
Systems engineering approaches are under consideration for secure products and systems, including evidence-based assurance approaches informed by NIST SP 800-160 Volume 1 Revision 1 Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems, coauthored by the presenter. Fellow 800-160 Volume 1 author Ron Ross refers to this as the "Great Cybersecurity Reset", with emerging new policy and possible legislation under consideration.
The presentation will discuss 800-160 Volume 1's applicability to secure product development focused to microelectronics and the promise it holds for more inherently secure products, including how systems engineering and systems thinking can aid. The story of policy changes in support of such approaches will be discussed to the extent it can publicly - the changes is an emerging story. In closing how engineers may prepare for changes will be overviewed, including educational and training forthcoming in support to preparing companies' workforces.
