Prof. Krishna Saraswat is Rickey/Nielsen Professor in the School of Engineering, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at Stanford University. He received B.E. degree in Electronics from BITS, India, in 1968 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford in 1969 and 1974, respectively.
During 1969-70, he worked at Texas Instruments. After Ph.D. he stayed at Stanford as a researcher and was appointed Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1983. He also has an honorary appointment of an Adjunct Professor at the BITS, Pilani. He has been a technical advisor, board member and consultant to a large number of companies in USA, Asia and Europe.
Professor Saraswat’s research interests are in new and innovative materials, structures, and process technology of semiconductor devices and interconnects for nanoelectronics, photonics and solar cells. He has supervised 100 doctoral students and has authored or co-authored over 875 technical papers, of which 11 have received Best Paper Award. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He received many awards including the Thomas Callinan Award from The Electrochemical Society in 2000, the IEEE Andrew Grove Award in 2004, Inventor Recognition Award from MARCO in 2007, Technovisionary Award from the India Semiconductor Association in 2007, the SIA Researcher of the Year Award in 2012, and SRC Aristotle Award in 2021. He is listed by ISI as one of the 250 Highly Cited Authors in his field.
