    Saifi Usmani

    Dr. Saifi Usmani joined SEMI in July 2025 and leads the global industry sustainability programs. SEMI is a semiconductor industry association representing hyperscalers, integrated circuit (chip) manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, material suppliers and service providers that enable chip production.

    Before joining SEMI, Saifi was the Head of the Planarization Business Field at EMD Electronics, a business of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany. As P&L owner of a significantly large business, Saifi led his business to record growth in sales and profitability by focusing the business strategy and innovation on the fast-growing opportunities in AI chip production; enabled by a transparent B2B collaboration model to drive innovation; propelled by machine learning driven, disruptive, cost-efficient and sustainable supply chain

    Saifi Usmani holds a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor of Technology degree from IIT Kanpur, India. He started his career as a CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) engineer at Motorola Inc. In 2002, he transitioned as a R&D program manager to DA NanoMaterials (DA Nano), a startup JV focused on the innovation and supply of CMP slurries, In 2007, Saifi moved with his family to Taiwan as the GM for DA Nano in Asia, where he led the significant growth of the Taiwan foundry revenues by enabling a local ecosystem including the Asia HQ and Apps Lab near the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan. Later, as VP of Marketing and Technology at DA Nano, Saifi’s team led the significant global growth of revenues and profits which were instrumental in the successful acquisition of the JV by Air Products. More recently, Saifi was a Marketing Director and Global Sales Head at Versum Materials CMP business, leading the significant scaling of the business in Asia and US.

    Outside of work, Saifi enjoys traveling with family and handyman projects at his house.
