Stefan Roots is a native of Chester, Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Villanova University.
Roots has worked in engineering, sales & marketing, project and executive management with Philadelphia Gas Works, International Business Machines (I.B.M.), in addition to a career in industrial operations with Sunoco refinery and DELCORA.
He serves on several boards in Delaware County including Community Action Agency of Delaware County and the Delaware County Chester Waterfront Industrial Development Authority along with active participation in several projects sponsored by Chester Made, a Pennsylvania Humanities sponsored art centered initiative.
In 2006, he launched a Chester community journalism project staring with the monthly ‘Chester Spotlight’ paper which went online as ChesterBlog.com in 2010. He’s authored the book ‘Toxic Man – The Melvin Wade Story’ in 2012.
On January 3, 2022, Roots joined Chester City Council and served as both Director of Public Property & Recreation and Director of Public Safety before becoming Mayor of Chester in January 2024.
